How do I recognise if a position has already been filled internally?

Signs: job posting has been online for weeks without an update (often a mandatory posting requirement). The interview feels perfunctory — little genuine interest in your answers. Very short interview times. Direct questions are evaded. Counter-strategies: ask directly ('Are there internal candidates for this position?') — surprisingly many recruiters answer honestly. Or use LinkedIn to check whether someone was promoted internally.
