Video interviews have their own quality requirements that many underestimate. Pre-interview tech checklist: Stable internet connection (cable > WiFi), good microphone (headset better than built-in), adequate lighting (light from the front, not behind), quiet background (or virtual background without distraction), camera at eye level. Behaviour on video: Looking directly into the camera (not at the screen) simulates eye contact. Destatis home office data: 25% of all German employees work remotely — video competence is valued as a standalone skill. OPM: Structured video interviews have comparable validity to in-person interviews when technically flawless. Caveat: Technical problems can happen to anyone — briefly acknowledge them, don't panic, do a tech test 30 minutes beforehand.
