Adult apprenticeships are possible in Germany and increasingly utilised. BA: Apprenticeships for adults can be shortened (§8 BBiG) if prior knowledge exists — to one year or less. The Qualifizierungschancengesetz also supports retraining for employees. Advantages of adult apprentices from the employer's perspective: Maturity, life experience, clearer motivation. Specific programmes: (1) BAMF courses for recognition of foreign qualifications. (2) BA further training advice for funded retraining. (3) IHK/HWK programmes for supplementary qualification. Destatis: The proportion of adults in apprenticeships is growing. Caveat under AGG: Age discrimination in apprenticeship positions is prohibited — yet it occurs. Complaint: Anti-discrimination agency.
